An event was held at Cafe Yan?mda, where employees with Down syndrome are served at Istanbul Airport, as part of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
According to the statement made by ?GA, the operator of the airport, TUM, which provides food and beverage services to passengers before and after flights with more than 90 businesses at Istanbul Airport, experienced the excitement of 19 May at Cafe Yan?mda, which stands out with its employees with physical and cognitive differences.
In the event organised in cooperation with the Down Syndrome Association of Turkey, visitors to Cafe Yan?mda, where employees with Down syndrome provide service, spent pleasant moments.
In the painting workshop specially established for children with Down syndrome, the event, where paintings on the theme of “Band?rma Ferry” were presented to the appreciation of passengers, continued with painter Osman Ülgen drawing charcoal drawings of airport guests.
Cello player Melike Oylum and a choir of disabled people from a private rehabilitation centre performed a mini concert for passengers during a cortege at Istanbul Airport. At the stand set up by the Down Syndrome Association of Turkey, products were sold to be donated to individuals with special needs.
Hüseyin Dönmez, TUM Senior Manager Hüseyin Dönmez, whose views were included in the statement, reminded that the 104th anniversary of the National Struggle, in which Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk laid the foundations of the Republic of Turkey and made it possible for the nation to write its own destiny, was celebrated.
Stating that 19 May, which paved the way for a free society, was entrusted to young people who look to the future with hope, Dönmez said, “As a brand that carries out activities by considering every individual equally in order to offer a better future to our youth, we celebrated our 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day with our young people with physical and cognitive differences. Thanks to the activities we offered specially for today, we provided our passengers at ?GA Istanbul Airport with pleasant moments.”
Within the scope of the programme organised by Istanbul Airport Operator ?GA, Turkish flags were distributed at the domestic and international terminals.
Activities such as live music, band performances and live sculptures were organised and watched with interest by local and foreign passengers.
