Istanbul Airport was the busiest airport in Europe last week with an average of 1419 daily flights.

The European Air Navigation Safety Organization (EUROCONTROL) published the European Aviation Report for the period of 9 May-15 May.

According to the data, Istanbul Airport, operated by ?GA, ranked first among the busiest airports in Europe with an average of 1419 daily flights.

Istanbul Airport was followed by Amsterdam with an average of 1325 daily flights, Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 1310 flights, London Heathrow with 1287 flights and Frankfurt with 1252 flights.

Among the top 10 airports in Europe, only Istanbul Airport and Spain’s Palma de Mallorca Airport exceeded 2019 levels in 2023.

Istanbul Airport ranked first again by increasing the number of daily flights by 24 per cent compared to 2019 and 20 per cent compared to 2022.

While 29,230 daily flights were operated across Europe, this figure reached 93 per cent of the 2019 level, representing the pre-Covid-19 outbreak.

Turkish Airlines (THY) ranked 3rd among the airlines operating the most flights in Europe with 1527 daily flights. Last week, the number of THY flights was 18 per cent above the same period last year and 17 per cent above the same period in 2019.
