DHL Global Forwarding and Turkish Cargo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen Istanbul’s potential to become a leading logistics hub in the world.

Under the MoU, DHL Global Forwarding will utilize SMARTIST, Turkish Cargo’s large cargo facility at Istanbul Airport.

This will significantly increase air cargo traffic moving through Istanbul, and the combination of Turkish Cargo’s intercontinental air cargo network with Turkey’s geographical advantages will allow DHL Global Forwarding to support the operational capabilities of Istanbul Airport.

“Turkey is geographically positioned to act as a logistics hub for Europe, Asia as well as the MENA region and the US. We are pleased to intensify our long-standing partnership with Turkish Cargo, which not only provides us with air cargo capacity, but also state-of-the-art logistics infrastructure for handling air cargo,” commented Thomas Mack, Global Head of Air Freight at DHL Global Forwarding.

For his part, Turkish Airlines Chief Cargo Officer Turhan Özen said, “The integration of SMARTIST, our mega cargo hub, into DHL Global Forwarding’s global network will improve the quality of our services and further strengthen the position of the Istanbul hub. This partnership will also allow us to offer more efficient, productive and seamless air cargo service to our customers.”

According to a statement, Turkish Cargo and DHL will continue to explore new areas of cooperation and further deepen their collaboration in the future.
